Best Mom Planners

As a mom myself, I know that planners are a great way for Moms to take back control of their crazy lives.

Just this past weekend, we had so much going on that if I didn’t have my planner, I would have been lost.  I learned a long time ago that trying to remember everything, all the time, was a sure way to make myself feel completely out of control.

And because I feel that using a planner is so important for a mom, I decided to do a review on the best planners for moms  to give you some highlights about each one since there are so many to choose from.

So I encourage you to scroll down and read through some of the aspects of each planner so you can decide which one you really want to look into more.

The 12 Best Planners For Moms

The Day Designer is the planner that I use.  I like it because it forces me to take a step back and decide what I want to accomplish for the year before I start diving into the year itself.

I actually do a full review of the Day Designer with more detailed pictures in a different post.

But for now, here is a quick summary of the Day Designer and what it has to offer you.

This planner helps you start the year off right by providing you with the following:

  • Self assessment of the different areas of your life and how you feel about them
  • Lists of the the top five values, strengths, and passions that are important to you
  • What you want your ideal month and week to look like
  • A place to list all of your to-dos for each day
  • A place to prioritize your to-do list
  • Places to write what is for dinner, what you should not forget, and what is due that day
  • Time slots for 5 a.m. through 9 p.m.
  • A place to write down what you are grateful for each and every day
  • A notes section

Along with a durable construction and well designed layout, this planner also has beautiful cover choices from flowers to classy stripes, and is spiral bound for easy page turning.

This planner is perfect for a mom who is in charge of managing her home, family schedule, her own schedule, and doing a little work on the side out of her home.

One of the best planners for moms who like to personalize and customize their plans and planners is the Erin Condren Life Planner.

So many women I  know who are both working and moms, love this planner.

This planner allow you to both personalize and customize.

The customization option  allows for the following choices:

  • daily
  • weekly
  • horizontal
  • vertical

The personalization option allows for theses extra choices:

  •  Different colors and prints on the cover
  • Adding your name to the front
  • Choose which months and years are within your calendar.
  • Choices this year include:
    • 12 month August 2020- July 2021
    • 12 month September 2020-August 2021
    • 17 month August 2020 – December 2021
    • and 12 month January 2021-December 2021

Based on the options, this planner is a great way to plan anyone’s day, but works especially well for moms who know how they like their planners so they can design it themselves.

Oh, and did I mention, that you can also customize your planner even more with the wide variety of planner accessories and stickers that Erin Condron has on her website?

There are pouches, covers, and totes for the outside of your planner, and notes, washi tape, and even gift labels for the outside of your planner.

Anyway you spin it, Erin Condron has gone out of her way to listen to what moms want and make this planner the absolute best it can be.

This is one of the best planners for moms who are creative and want their planner to reflect that creativity.  The point of the happy planner is more for artistic, fun moms to find a way to get organized in interesting and creative ways.

There are not as many choices for customizing the inside of the planner as the Life Planner by Erin Condron, but the Happy Planner makes up for this by creating a lot of different planners for different points you are trying to work on in your life.

Some examples of the planners offered by The Happy Planner are:

  • 12 month planners
  • Memory keeping planners
  • Wedding planners
  • Budget planners
  • Fitness planners
  • Faith planners
  • Wellness planners

With all that said, the actual 12 month planner is created with monthly calendars, and horizontal daily calendars.  And each of these pages encourage you with inspirational quotes and motivation to achieve your goals.

The Happy Planner also is a place for you to express your creativity through doodles, colors, and stickers.

The Bloom Daily Planner – Vision Planner is one of the best planners for moms who have trouble reaching their goals, and balancing their life.

There is even a page for each month that allows you to remind yourself of your personal goals, work goals, family goals, and fun goals.

If you are looking to become better able to balance life between being a mom and being anything else…like a woman, working woman, healthy and fit woman…then this planner can help you achieve that.

But what if you want the fun of the happy planner mixed with the “all business” side of the Bloom Daily Planner?

No worries, like the rest, The Bloom Planner offers fun stickers, washi tapes, and accessories you can use to personalize every inch of your planner while you are slaying your goals!

And to make matters even better, this is one of the best planners for moms because, while it is made the same if not better than some of the others, it is about $30 cheaper.  So it is in the sweet spot for any stay at home mom who is trying to survive on just one income.

This year, Amy Knapp’s The Very Busy Planner is all about YOU!  And boy is it.  When you look through the pages, each is about self discovery, inspiration, and finding your best self.  There are pages for reflections, planning, and just having fun by making a music playlist.

But what about calendars and dates?  Those are in there too.

And if you are looking for something more geared around your family than your own self discovery, Amy Knapp also has a Family Organizer that includes setting goals for both yourself and your family as a whole.  The Family Organizer also has places to make notes for babysitters, list out your children’s parents phone numbers, and plan your grocery list.

This is the best planner for a stay at home mom who is trying to juggle everyday life at home with kids.

Looking for something just short of a personal assistant?  Then the Clever Fox Planner may be it.  The Clever Fox takes into account every aspect of any mom’s life.  From planning, to self care, to setting goals, and reviewing those goals.  It incorporates bullet journaling spaces and lists, checklists, and graphics to help you understand where you are currently spending your time, and what areas of your life may need more attention.

As for fun accessories, there are plenty of cute stickers to add to the planner, and if you need something to keep your budget in check, they also have a fabulous budget tracker.

The Clever Fox Planner has it all and is why I added it to the list of best planners for moms.

This is one of the best planners for moms who are looking for something minimalist.  I would call this planner very straight forward.  It was created for one purpose, and that is to write down dates and times for you to remember.  If this is all you need, then this is a perfect planner for you.  No frills, no fuss, just a calendar with 7 days on each page.

They do offer a 16 and 18 month calendar if you are looking for a few options.

The Simplified Planner by Emily Ley is one of the best planners for moms because it is geared toward the New Year, and toward a mom who is intending to set new goals and reach them.

The planner starts off doing exactly that…the first section is titled ‘Preparing For A New Year’, where you start off by listing the things that worked and didn’t work last year.

This planner is about making changes that will work in the future and sticking to them.

Here is what you can expect to see in the planner:

  • Routines for morning and evening
  • Habit tracker
  • Bucket list
  • Journaling pages
  • Monthly and Daily planning pages

Just like her clothing line, Lilly Pulitzer puts her unique vibrant colors onto her planners and agendas as well.  Every planner has beautifully bright drawings, and feels like summer in your hand.

This planner is very straight forward.  It consists of both monthly and daily calendars to use.  It also comes with cute stickers to use.  I put this planner on the list of best planners for moms, solely because some moms only need this…but they want their planner to be beautiful to look at every day.  And that is what the Lilly Pulitzer planner brings to the mix.  Something beautiful to look at and use on a daily basis.

The Panda Planner is one of the best planners for moms who need to stay on task.  This planner will help you plan and complete projects by prompting you to review your day’s beginning and end.

If you are looking for a planner that can give you this straight forward prompting and feedback each and every day, then the Panda Planner may be what keeps you happy day to day.

I had never heard of the Freedom Planner, so when it was recommended to me, I had to do my homework.  But what I can tell you is that I was thoroughly impressed.

This planner is great for the mom who is also running a business or side hustle, or a mom who just really wants to stay focused on making her life better while still being a great mom.  The Freedom Planner offers something for everyone, but it is mainly geared toward keeping your focus and achieving your goals.

There are the typical monthly, weekly, and daily plans inside, but there are also places to plan out goals for each month whether for your personal life, momlife, or worklife.

There are follow up pages at the end of the month to help you realize what you accomplished and if you are staying true to yourself, your goals, and your mission.

And there are also journal-like pages that allow you to use this Freedom Planner for notes each month as you realize changes that need to be made, something extra you could be doing, or new appointments you need to set for the next month.

But the thing I liked most about this planner was that there was space each day to write the things you need to get done…but more importantly a space for writing something you want to do just for you.  As a reward for the hard work you did that day.

And this self reward space is present on each and every day of the week for the whole year.  Just think if you could add a little self care into each and every day.  What kind of mother could you become?

Often Asked Questions:

I hope you found my review of what I believe to be the very best planners for moms, helpful and insightful.

Now, here are answers to popular questions that get asked about using a planner…

Why do moms need to use a planner?

I can remember when I first became a mom.  One baby, no job to worry about, so my life was pretty easy.  But as my first baby got older, there were more things I had to remember.

Then came baby number 2.  And low and behold, life got a whole lot more complicated.  On top of mommy brain, too little sleep, chasing around a toddler, nursing a baby, and trying to keep my house looking a little better than the pits of hell, I was overwhelmed, frazzled, and could not remember what I did 5 minutes ago, so how was I supposed to remember things that were coming later in my day or even my week?

So at first I got a calendar.  Just one that I hung in the kitchen and could add appointments and times to.  And it worked great.  Until it didn’t.

Eventually, the kids were in school, doing activities, I had started my blog, my youngest was homeschooling, and guess what…I still had mom brain, and was still slightly sleep deprived.  So something had to change.

I needed a way to take all the jumble out of my brain and put it somewhere else.

That is when I got my first planner.

And I feel like you will know when you need to buy your first planner as well.

Here are some of the things you may feel:

Here are some things you may start to notice:

  • Missed Appointments
  • Forgotten important dates
  • Messy Home
  • Forgetting things you have to get done each day

If this is you right now, I promise you, a planner can help you.

What is the best planner for you?

Deciding on the best planner to use is not a difficult decision, but it does depend on you, your personality, and what you are currently trying to juggle in your life.  Fortunately, there are planners created for all different personalities and ways of thinking.

What should you write in your planner?

There are many different kinds of things people like to write in their planner.  The obvious answer is appointments, playdates, and chores.

But here are some other options that some people write in their planners that help them in more ways than just organization:

  • Daily Gratitude
  • Goals
  • Accomplishments
  • Daily funny things that happened
  • Things you want to remember
  • Doodles
  • Inspiration
  • Exercise log
  • Journal type thoughts
  • Budget log

So the best way to use a planner comes down to the best way for YOU to use your planner.  So decide what works for you and do that.

Do planners really help?

Planners really do help if you actually use them.  Unfortunately, a planner, whether digital or paper, cannot do the work for you.  So creating a routine to help you stay on task and remember to write in your planner can help you.

Or another option is hiring an assistant…(LOL!)  Then you don’t have to do any of the work!

How do beginners use planners?

As a beginner, the best thing you can do is just start by writing down your future appointments and important dates.  Write down birthdays you want to remember, if you have a doctor’s appointment coming up, or if you have a playdate planned for the kids.

As you begin to get into a routine of writing things in your planner, start to add to it.  Maybe start adding certain chores to certain days of the week.  Write in fun days you have planned with the kids or your husband.  You can even start writing down goals you have for the future.

How can you make your planner cute?

Making your planner cute is easier than ever now.  Almost any planner you buy either comes with stickers and other accessories, or you can buy them on the planner’s website.  And if you are really into making your planner cute and have not checked them out, I would recommend looking into the stickers and accessories before you buy your planner.

That way, you know you will be excited about using it.

What are the benefits of using a planner?

Where do I start with this question?  Many many years ago, I was not organized, flying by the seat of my pants, fun mommy.

But this came with a price…missed appointments, late everywhere we went, couldn’t find things in our house, wasn’t getting things cleaned.  My house was a mess, and so was my life…but my kids were happy!

But as the kids got older, I needed to become more organized.  When I started using a planner, it changed everything.  I made it to doctor’s appointments on the right day…and on time!  With two kids in tow!

I started writing in chores that needed to be done on certain days of the week.

And then when I started my blog…well, a planner became absolutely essential.

And then to top it all of, I am homeschooling my youngest for the second year in a row.

Getting started early with a planner can save you a lot of headaches as your plate fills up as you settle into your mom role.

Should I get a daily or weekly planner?

Daily planners are good for listing out tasks by the hour.  This is a great option for someone like myself who is trying to run a business, along side of being a mom, alongside of homeschooling.  It is good for me to have certain tasks start and end at certain times.

A weekly planner is good for a mom who is just trying to keep appointments, play dates, and birthdays straight.  It is a good way to see what to expect for the week at one glance and know what you need to plan.

What size planner should I get?

There are planners that are size A4, A5, and even A6.  The larger planners give you more room to write, plan and create.  But the smaller planners are easier to transport and carry in your mom bag or purse.

Should you keep old planners?

I keep my old planners for one year, then throw it out.  The reason I do this is that I have on occasion needed to look back in my old planner to see when I did something, or if I possibly forgot to put someone’s birthday in by mistake.

But keeping your old planner is not necessary if you don’t want the clutter or have the space for it.

How do you color code a planner?

Color coding a planner is super easy, you just need to make a key for yourself and decide what your colors will represent.

Some moms like to use a different color for each member of the family.  Then they only write that family member’s info in that particular color.

Others like to color code categories.  For example, chores are red, homeschool items are green, and family events are purple.  That way you can see the events happening each day quickly.

How do you use an hourly planner?

To use an hourly planner, write the task you want to add to the day on the line of the hour you want that task to start.  Then, draw a line down the hours to the end of the event to show the stop time of that task.

What Is The Best Planner For Moms?

In the end, finding the best planner is not about finding one planner that is the best for all moms.  It is about finding the one planner that is best for you.  For your creativity, your self care, your happiness, and your goals.

So I leave you with this…

The best planners for moms are the ones that work specifically for you.
